I don't know if I would go so far as to say it was a minor role or least important. I was lucky enough to see them (OAITW) in New Jersey the summer they toured. 73? It was a thrill to see him play banjo. He certainly wasn't the icon he was with the Dead. He looked really happy to be just another guy in the band.He played solos and sang a little.Overall it was a very enjoyable evening. I think it was a huge kick for him to play with Vassar. Everytime he took a fiddle solo Garcia had a grin from ear to ear.
